Anna Faris Says Podcast Helped Her Cope After Chris Pratt Divorce: “I Was Feeling Sad”

Anna Faris is opening up about the emotional challenges she faced following her divorce from Chris Pratt, revealing that her podcast became a vital source of support during one of the most difficult periods of her life.

In a recent interview with Variety, the Scary Movie and The House Bunny star reflected on the end of her marriage to Pratt, who filed for divorce in 2017 after eight years together.

“I was feeling sad. Sad,” Faris admitted while discussing the breakup and the pressures that came with living in the public eye. The actress acknowledged that more than two decades in Hollywood had inevitably influenced her life, but said intense media scrutiny made the experience especially difficult.

“I would be naïve to think that it hasn't shaped who I am at this point. But, f---. The scrutiny,” she said.

Anna Faris Credits ‘Unqualified’ Podcast for Helping Her Through Divorce

Faris revealed that her advice podcast, Anna Faris Is Unqualified, played a major role in helping her navigate the emotional fallout of her split from Pratt.

Launched in 2015 and running through 2023, the podcast featured celebrity interviews and listener call-ins seeking relationship and life advice. According to Faris, the show provided a sense of community outside of Hollywood.

“I’m lucky that at that time I had my podcast,” she told Variety. “I wanted an avenue outside of Hollywood as a way to connect with people.”

The actress explained that she originally envisioned the podcast as a small, personal project where she could build meaningful connections with listeners.

A Lifelong Desire to Connect With People

Faris said her passion for authentic conversations inspired the format of Unqualified. She recalled a habit of striking up deep conversations with strangers during ski lift rides.

“I’d say, ‘Do you want to have a really intense ten-minute conversation with me?’” Faris explained. “And I’d ask them questions like, ‘When was the first time you fell in love?’”

Despite discussing relationships and personal topics on the podcast, Faris noted that she generally kept details of her own life private.

“I didn’t disclose a lot on the podcast, but I always felt like I could if I needed to,” she said.

The experience also helped her realize that writing could become a meaningful future career path.

Anna Faris Feels Career Opportunities Are Growing

Now several years removed from her divorce, Faris says she feels optimistic about her professional future and grateful for the support she continues to receive from fans.

“I feel like the opportunities are more bountiful than they’ve ever been,” she said. “I’m just overwhelmed with gratitude.”

The actress noted that fans frequently approach her to share how projects such as The House Bunny, Scary Movie, and Mom impacted their lives.

Anna Faris and Chris Pratt Relationship Timeline

Faris and Pratt first met in 2007 while filming the comedy Take Me Home Tonight. They became engaged in 2008 and married in a private ceremony in Bali in July 2009.

The couple welcomed their son, Jack, in 2012. Over the years, they became one of Hollywood’s most recognizable couples, particularly as Pratt’s career skyrocketed following the success of Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World.

In August 2017, they announced their separation in a joint statement, saying they had “tried really hard for a long time.” Pratt officially filed for divorce in December 2017, citing irreconcilable differences. Their divorce was finalized in November 2018.

As part of their settlement, the former couple agreed to joint legal and physical custody of Jack and included a unique provision requiring them to live within five miles of each other until their son completed sixth grade.

Both Stars Have Moved Forward

Following the divorce, both actors entered new chapters in their personal lives. Pratt married Katherine Schwarzenegger in 2019, while Faris married cinematographer Michael Barrett in 2021.

Although both have consistently described their split as amicable, Faris’ latest comments offer a deeper look into the emotional impact of the breakup and the challenges of maintaining a marriage under constant public attention.

Today, the actress says she is focused on gratitude, connection, and embracing new opportunities as she continues her career resurgence in Hollywood.
