Jesse Eisenberg Explains Why He Turned Down The Social Network Sequel

Jesse Eisenberg says he chose not to return for Aaron Sorkin's upcoming sequel to The Social Network because he no longer wants to be linked to the role of Mark Zuckerberg.

Speaking to Variety at the Los Angeles premiere of Minions & Monsters, Eisenberg praised Sorkin, calling him "articulate," "charming," and "bright." He said they discussed the sequel for several days before he decided to decline the project.

Eisenberg said he is "moving in different directions" in his career and added that he does not want to be associated with the Zuckerberg character. He stressed that his decision was not a criticism of the film, saying he believes the sequel will be excellent.

The actor has previously expressed discomfort with being connected to Zuckerberg, citing concerns about the Meta CEO's actions in recent years.

Sorkin announced plans for the sequel in 2024 and will write and direct the film, taking over directing duties from David Fincher. Jeremy Strong has been cast as Zuckerberg and recently praised Sorkin's script while saying his performance will be different from Eisenberg's.
