According to his attorney, Beau Brindley, the transfer was a routine administrative move and was not connected to any medical condition or health concern.
Routine Transfer From FCI Seagoville
Duggar was moved on May 29 from the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Seagoville in Seagoville, Texas, to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Fort Worth in Fort Worth, Texas.
Speaking about the transfer, Brindley said Duggar is doing "fine" and emphasized that the relocation had nothing to do with his physical or mental health.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) describes FMC Fort Worth as an administrative-security federal medical center that provides enhanced medical and mental health treatment for inmates who require inpatient care, intensive monitoring, or specialized services. The facility also houses general-population inmates.
Josh Duggar’s Criminal Case
Duggar's federal criminal case began in April 2021 when U.S. Marshals arrested him following a federal investigation into child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
A federal grand jury charged him with receiving and possessing CSAM after investigators traced illegal downloads to a computer located at Wholesale Motorcars, a used-car dealership he owned in Springdale, Arkansas.
During the investigation, prosecutors presented digital evidence that allegedly placed Duggar at the dealership when the files were downloaded. The evidence included cellphone photos, text messages, and internet activity linked to the computer.
Guilty Verdict and Sentencing
After a widely watched federal trial, a jury found Duggar guilty in December 2021.
On May 25, 2022, U.S. District Judge Timothy L. Brooks sentenced him to 151 months in federal prison, equivalent to approximately 12 years and 7 months.
In addition to the prison sentence, Duggar received:
• 20 years of supervised release after incarceration
• A $50,000 fine
• Mandatory sex offender registration requirements
Appeals Rejected by Federal Courts
Since his conviction, Duggar's legal team has pursued multiple appeals.
His attorneys argued that the trial court improperly limited evidence they wanted to present regarding an alternative suspect and that statements he made to federal agents should have been excluded.
However, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit upheld the conviction in August 2023. The court ruled that Duggar was not in custody when he made the statements in question and found no error in the trial judge's evidentiary decisions.
A request for a full rehearing was later denied, and on June 24, 2024, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review the case, leaving the conviction intact.
Recent Legal Setback in 2026
Duggar continued seeking post-conviction relief in 2026 by filing a motion to vacate his conviction in federal court.
On June 1, 2026, Judge Brooks denied the motion, ruling that it had been filed after the applicable deadline and was therefore procedurally barred.
Current Release Date
Following administrative recalculations within the federal prison system, Duggar's projected release date was extended by approximately two months in 2026.
According to current Bureau of Prisons records, his scheduled release date is February 2, 2033.
For now, Duggar remains incarcerated at FMC Fort Worth, where his attorney says he is adjusting well following what the defense describes as a routine prison transfer.
