Tarek and Heather Rae El Moussa Speak Out After Newport Beach Home Burglary

HGTV stars Tarek El Moussa and Heather Rae El Moussa are speaking publicly after their Newport Beach, California, home was burglarized while the family was away on vacation in Los Cabos, Mexico.

In a joint statement shared on Instagram on June 12, the couple said they were grateful that no family members were harmed but expressed heartbreak over the loss of sentimental belongings and family heirlooms taken during the break-in.

“Our home has always been our sanctuary, the place where Tarek and I raise and protect our babies, love our family and find peace,” the couple wrote. “Having that space violated has been deeply unsettling, but we are profoundly grateful that our family is safe.”

They added that while stolen material possessions can be replaced, the loss of personal items with emotional significance has been especially painful.

“While material things can be replaced, our hearts are broken over the irreplaceable family heirlooms and special memories that were taken from us,” the statement continued.

The couple also thanked law enforcement and supporters for their assistance and encouragement following the incident.

“We are taking every precaution to protect our home moving forward, and we are grateful to law enforcement for their swift response and diligent work,” they said. “Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and support. Your kindness means more than we can say as we work to restore peace to our home.”

Details of the Burglary

The Newport Beach Police Department confirmed that the burglary occurred while the family was out of town. According to investigators, the crime took place sometime between the morning of Saturday, June 6, and the evening of Monday, June 8.

Police said unknown suspects entered the property through the backyard and gained access to the residence by shattering a rear sliding glass door.

Once inside, the intruders reportedly focused their attention on the primary bedroom. Authorities said the suspects ransacked the primary bedroom closet before fleeing through the backyard and exiting the property.

Investigators confirmed that jewelry was among the items stolen. Officials have not released additional details about the suspects or the total value of the missing property. The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been announced.

Heather Hinted at the Incident Earlier

Before details of the burglary became public, Heather shared an emotional message on Instagram Stories on June 9, suggesting that something serious had occurred.

“Disgusted by some of the cruel heartless people in this world. Tarek and I feel violated and to be honest really sad,” she wrote.

She also reassured followers that the family was physically unharmed.

“Taking a break for a few days and will be back to explain soon. We are safe & the kids are safe,” she added.

A Family Home Targeted

The property that was burglarized is the couple’s Newport Beach mansion, which they purchased for approximately $5.2 million. The home was chosen in part because it offered more space for their blended family and sits across from a neighborhood park.

The residence spans roughly 2,900 to 3,000 square feet and features four bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms. Known for its striking appearance, the house has a modern, luxury-inspired design and is painted entirely in Sherwin-Williams’ Tricorn Black, giving it a distinctive look within the coastal community.

Inside, the home includes a custom chef’s kitchen with high-end appliances, a large center island, and a dramatic black marble backsplash. The primary suite, which was reportedly targeted during the burglary, features a custom-built oversized bed, a velvet accent wall, vaulted ceilings, and designer lighting.

Large sliding glass and pocket doors connect the interior to an outdoor entertainment area that includes a pool, fire pit, and patio dining space.

The burglary has sparked discussion online, with some observers noting that the couple had been sharing updates and photos from their vacation on social media while away from home. Some commenters suggested that real-time vacation posts can potentially alert criminals that a residence is unoccupied.
