Angelina Jolie hopes family can "heal" as more children seek to drop Pitt surname

Angelina Jolie wants her family to "heal" as four of her children have sought to legally remove "Pitt" from their last names, according to a source close to the actress.

Jolie shares six children with former husband Brad Pitt: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne. Court documents obtained by PEOPLE show that on July 21, Vivienne filed a petition to change her name to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie, listing the reason as "personal."

She joins siblings Shiloh, Zahara and Maddox, who have also filed to remove "Pitt" from their surnames. Shiloh's name change was approved in August 2024, while Zahara's and Maddox's petitions are still pending. Hearings for their cases are scheduled for September, and Vivienne's hearing is set for Nov. 2.

A source close to Jolie told PEOPLE that she is "not fighting and isn't angry" and "just wants everyone to heal." The source added that the children have chosen not to publicly discuss the reasons behind their decisions.

A source close to Pitt previously described the situation as "sad," accusing Jolie of alienating the children from their father.

Neither Jolie nor Pitt has publicly commented on the latest name change petitions. In a June 2025 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Pitt spoke broadly about the importance of family and being surrounded by loved ones.
