Anne Hathaway Thought She Was Auditioning for Harley Quinn, Not Catwoman

Anne Hathaway recently shared a surprising story about her audition for The Dark Knight Rises. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, she said she spent a week preparing to play Harley Quinn because she believed that was the role Christopher Nolan wanted her to discuss.

Hathaway said she even dressed the part, wearing striped clothes and jester-style flats to match Harley Quinn’s playful but chaotic personality. However, about two hours into her meeting with Nolan, he revealed that the role was actually Catwoman.

She quickly changed her approach, adopting a more confident and mysterious attitude to fit Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman. Her performance was widely praised, and the film became one of her most successful projects.

The role also marked the beginning of a long working relationship with Nolan. They later teamed up again for Interstellar and will reunite in the upcoming film The Odyssey, which is set to release on July 17.

Hathaway has previously said that Nolan helped her career during a difficult period after her Oscar win for Les Misérables. She revealed that online backlash made many filmmakers hesitant to cast her, but Nolan ignored the criticism and gave her the role of Dr. Amelia Brand in Interstellar. She has credited him with giving her an important opportunity when others would not.
