Brittney Griner Files for Divorce From Wife Cherelle Griner

Brittney Griner has filed for divorce from her wife, Cherelle Griner, ending their marriage after about eight years together.

Court records filed on July 30 in Fulton County, Georgia, state that the couple separated on July 24, 2026. In the filing, Griner said the marriage is "irretrievably broken" and requested joint legal custody of their two-year-old son, Bash.

The couple met while attending Baylor University and married in 2018.

Cherelle Griner became widely known for leading efforts to secure Brittney Griner's release after the WNBA star was arrested in Russia in 2022 for carrying vape cartridges containing cannabis oil. Brittney was sentenced to nine years in prison but was freed in December 2022 as part of a prisoner exchange.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported the divorce filing.
