Christopher Nolan jokes about not having a writing Oscar while working on The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan shared a funny story about his son while discussing the writing of his upcoming film The Odyssey in a BBC News interview.

Nolan said his son asked, "Where are your Oscars?" The director explained that he keeps his Academy Awards out of sight because seeing them while writing a new project would feel intimidating.

His son quickly replied, "But you didn't win for writing."

Nolan won the 2024 Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture for Oppenheimer, but he did not win Best Adapted Screenplay, despite being nominated. He has also received previous screenplay nominations for Memento and Inception.

Speaking about The Odyssey, Nolan said he is adapting Homer's epic with the freedom to reinterpret the story for modern audiences while preserving its timeless themes. The film features an ensemble cast including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong'o, and Elliot Page. It is scheduled to open in theaters on July 17.
