Danny Glover reveals Alzheimer's diagnosis

Actor Danny Glover has revealed that he has Alzheimer's disease.

The 79-year-old shared the news during Wednesday's episode of NBC's Today. He said he was diagnosed shortly before receiving the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the Governors Awards in March 2022.

"I can live with it, in a sense," Glover said. He added that he knows the condition will change over time as it progresses.

Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia. According to the Mayo Clinic, it is a progressive brain disorder that affects memory, thinking, speech, and daily functioning.

Glover's daughter, Mandisa, said her father wanted to speak publicly about his diagnosis while he is still able to tell his own story. She said the family first noticed changes when he began forgetting small parts of stories he had previously remembered in great detail.

Glover said he is still coming to terms with the diagnosis but continues to value the memories he retains.

Glover is best known for starring in the Lethal Weapon films and The Color Purple. His career also includes roles in Places in the Heart, the first Saw film, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, and HBO's Mandela, for which he received one of his four Emmy nominations.
