Speaking at Universal's presentation, Franco said fans had embraced his character, Raww, a kind-hearted but unlucky weredog, months before the film's release.
"I'm glad you brought this up," Franco said. "Raww's become somewhat of a sex icon online." He then jokingly called out to furry fans in the audience.
When asked how he hoped audiences would connect with Raww, Franco replied with another joke: "I think sexually."
Franco was joined by co-stars Liza Soberano and H.E.R., along with writer-directors Joel Crawford and Manuel Mercado, to promote Forgotten Island. The animated adventure is inspired by Filipino culture and follows two best friends stranded in the mystical world of Nakali, where escaping may require sacrificing their shared memories.
The voice cast also includes Lea Salonga, Manny Jacinto, Dolly De Leon and Jo Koy.
Franco praised the film's collaborative recording process, saying the directors encouraged the cast to improvise and bring their own personalities to the roles.
Forgotten Island is scheduled to open in cinemas on 25 September.
