Gayle King Powers Through CBS Mornings After Jay-Z Concert Without Sleep

Gayle King showed up to co-anchor CBS Mornings after attending Jay-Z's delayed concert at Yankee Stadium, despite getting no sleep.

The July 12 concert was pushed back for several hours after a security incident outside the venue, with Jay-Z taking the stage shortly after midnight and performing until nearly 3 a.m. More than 40,000 fans attended the final night of his three-show residency.

According to PEOPLE, King went straight from the concert to the CBS studio for the 7 a.m. broadcast and later spent the rest of the day working at Oprah Daily.

"It was an epic night," King told PEOPLE, saying the long wait was worthwhile once the show began.

On CBS Mornings, King acknowledged that some fans left before the performance but said most stayed because they believed Jay-Z would eventually take the stage. She also shared videos from the event, including a moment with DJ Khaled, who described the night as "history."

King attended the concert with her son, Will Bumpus Jr., his wife, Elise Smith, and a family friend. She credited her son with introducing her to Jay-Z's music years ago.

The nearly three-hour concert featured close to 50 songs and surprise appearances by Beyoncé, Rihanna, Usher, Pharrell Williams, Clipse, Teyana Taylor, Jeezy, Swizz Beatz, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, The-Dream, and Jermaine Dupri.

After the show, King praised the performance on Instagram, writing that Jay-Z's "genius was on full display" and that the concert was "absolutely worth the wait."
