Speaking at Entertainment Weekly’s 2026 San Diego Comic-Con Studio, the Warrior star said a young woman once approached him in tears asking for his autograph.
Edgerton initially believed she was a devoted fan, but realised she had confused him with Worthington when she praised his performance in Avatar.
Although Edgerton has never appeared in the Avatar films, he signed the autograph anyway.
“I just said, ‘Thank you. Thank you,’” he recalled, adding that he usually accepts compliments when people mistake him for roles he has never played.
He joked that the fan probably realised the mix-up later, saying she had “obviously thought I was Sam Worthington”.
His Dark Matter co-star Jennifer Connelly also shared that she is often mistaken for Demi Moore and has had people insist she appeared in films she was never part of.
Season two of Dark Matter premieres on Apple TV on 28 August.
