Juan Pablo Raba Questions Joaquin’s Role in Dutton Ranch Finale Killing

Juan Pablo Raba says he is not convinced his character, Joaquin, killed Rob-Will (Jai Courtney) in the season 1 finale of Dutton Ranch, despite clues pointing in that direction.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Raba said Joaquin is "not a killer" and believes the timeline of the murder raises doubts. Although Joaquin's father, drug lord Mariano (Raoul Max Trujillo), ordered him to kill Rob-Will and Joaquin was shown waiting outside with a gun, the shooting itself was never shown on screen.

Instead, Rob-Will's daughter, Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind), heard a gunshot and found her father dead inside the house, while a vehicle sped away.

Raba suggested someone else could have carried out the killing, noting that Mariano may have had a backup plan. He also speculated that Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening), who had her own conflict with Rob-Will, could have been involved.

The actor said the filmmakers intentionally shot multiple versions of Joaquin's final scene, showing different emotions and levels of responsibility because even the cast did not know who the real killer was.

Looking ahead, Raba said Joaquin is frightened and out of his depth, especially after the finale's reveal that Mariano's men kidnapped Carter (Finn Little). He believes the character faces major challenges if he hopes to survive in the dangerous world around him.
