Katie Lee Biegel says Chevy Chase mistook her for party staff

Food Network star Katie Lee Biegel has recalled an awkward encounter with actor Chevy Chase, saying he mistook her for a member of the catering staff at a party she hosted with her then-husband Billy Joel.

Speaking on her All on the Table with Katie Lee Biegel podcast, Biegel said the incident happened at an end-of-summer keg party held at a house known as the "Sugar Shack", which she and Joel planned to demolish.

Biegel said she was carrying a tray of Jell-O shots when she approached Joel, Chase and Chase's wife to offer them drinks.

According to Biegel, Chase assumed she was working at the event and "shooed" her away with his hand instead of responding to her offer.

Chase, known for films including National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Fletch and Memoirs of an Invisible Man, has faced criticism over the years from former colleagues who have described him as difficult to work with.

During the same podcast, Biegel also shared a positive celebrity encounter, praising comedian Jon Stewart for his kindness when she worked at a fish market in Sag Harbor in 2003.

She said Stewart was her first customer and stood out because he was polite, patient and asked how she was doing in return, unlike some customers who ignored her greeting.
