Letitia Wright welcomes David Jonsson as new T’Challa in Black Panther 3

Letitia Wright has praised David Jonsson after Marvel confirmed he will play the new T’Challa in Black Panther 3.

The announcement was made by director Ryan Coogler during Marvel Studios' Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. Jonsson's casting followed reveals that Ryan Gosling will play Ghost Rider in a standalone film planned for 2028 and a preview of Avengers: Doomsday.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly after the panel, Wright said she was thrilled for Jonsson, describing him as "a special person with a good heart". She said the pair have a personal connection and are still taking in the news together.

Wright, who plays Shuri, said her character will guide the young T’Challa after becoming Wakanda’s Black Panther in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She added that she is looking forward to working with Jonsson and joked that she plans to "pick on him so much".

She also said fans will see a more confident and experienced Shuri in Avengers: Doomsday, describing her as a stronger leader after the events of Wakanda Forever.

Jonsson became emotional as fans cheered his casting during the Comic-Con panel. He thanked Coogler, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and the cast, calling it "a privilege and blessing" to join the franchise. He said he wanted to let his performance "do the talking".

Jonsson rose to prominence in HBO's Industry before starring in Alien: Romulus (2024) and earning acclaim for his role in the 2025 Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk.
