Noah Kahan criticises White House over use of his song in Trump post

Singer-songwriter Noah Kahan has criticised the White House after it used his song American Cars in social media posts featuring President Donald Trump.

The posts, shared on Instagram and TikTok, showed Trump visiting General Motors' main vehicle testing site in Michigan. After fans drew Kahan's attention to the videos, he responded on Instagram, saying he would "never approve" of his music being used to support Trump or his administration.

The Instagram post later appeared to have its audio removed, although the song remained on the White House's TikTok post. Noah Levine, who co-wrote American Cars with Kahan, also criticised the White House in the comments.

Kahan is the latest artist to object to the administration's use of their music on social media.

Last weekend, Katy Perry said she was "deeply appalled" after her song Firework was used in a White House TikTok video showing military strikes. She said she had not given permission and did not support its use.

In June, Ariana Grande also criticised the White House after a version of her song Bye was used in a TikTok post featuring immigration arrests.

Other artists, including Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, Celine Dion, Neil Young and the Rolling Stones, have previously spoken out against Trump using their music.
