Olivia Wilde Recalls Jeff Bridges' Unusual Acting Method on Tron: Legacy

Olivia Wilde says Jeff Bridges had an unusual way of preparing for emotional scenes while filming Tron: Legacy.

Speaking with Seth Rogen in Entertainment Weekly’s Lie Vs. Lie video series, Wilde recalled that Bridges would make gagging or retching sounds to help himself become emotional before dramatic takes. She said the technique was real and admitted it was difficult not to laugh when it happened on set.

Wilde starred as Quorra in the 2010 sci-fi film alongside Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Beau Garrett, Michael Sheen, and Bruce Boxleitner. The movie was directed by Joseph Kosinski.

During the interview, Wilde also shared a dangerous experience from filming the 2006 horror movie Turistas. She said she nearly drowned while shooting an underwater scene because the crew initially thought her real distress was part of her performance. Wilde said the cameraman eventually realized something was wrong, dropped the camera, and pulled her to safety.

She added that the footage from the incident remained in the finished film because it was the only take.

Wilde currently stars in The Invite, which is now playing in theaters.
