Pattinson, who plays Antinous, said he believes audiences may support his character, even though Antinous is one of the suitors trying to win Penelope while her husband, Odysseus, is believed to be dead.
“I keep comparing. It’s kind of like Jacob in Twilight,” Pattinson said, referring to Taylor Lautner’s character. He joked that Penelope “can’t make her mind up between the two guys” and said Antinous is “just trying to help her make a decision.” Looking into the camera, he added, “It’s like, it’s fine, he’s dead. Get over it!”
Pattinson also revisited the long-running “Team Edward” versus “Team Jacob” debate. Recalling a recent press event for The Drama, he said, “No one’s Team Jacob. That was just a marketing thing,” before jokingly apologizing when a reporter said they supported Jacob.
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon as Odysseus and Anne Hathaway as Penelope, opens in theaters on July 17.
