Ryan Hurst Exits Amazon’s God of War Series After Injury

Ryan Hurst will no longer play Kratos in Amazon’s upcoming God of War TV series after suffering a bicep injury while filming in Vancouver.

According to reports confirmed by Entertainment Weekly, Hurst had surgery and is recovering. Because it is unclear when he will be able to return, Amazon has paused production. The first four episodes, which had already been filmed, will be reshot with a new actor once a replacement is chosen.

The series is based on the 2018 God of War video game. It follows Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they travel through Norse lands to fulfill the final wish of Kratos’ late wife while facing powerful Asgardian gods.

The cast includes Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, and Callum Vinson as Atreus. The show is led by showrunner Ronald D. Moore, with the first two episodes directed by Frederick E.O. Toye.

Amazon has already renewed the series for a second season, but the production schedule may now change because of the recasting.
