Tom Selleck says Blue Bloods cancellation remains 'frustrating' despite cast pay cuts

Tom Selleck has said he is still disappointed by the cancellation of Blue Bloods, revealing that the cast and production team accepted a 25% pay cut in an effort to keep the long-running CBS drama on air.

Speaking on Ted Danson's Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast, Selleck said everyone involved wanted to return for another season. He described the series as "a labor of love" and said the cast had become like a real family after working together for more than a decade.

Selleck said the decision to end the show was especially frustrating because Blue Bloods remained one of the highest-rated broadcast TV programmes in its final years. He noted that the main cast had stayed together throughout the show's run, something he called rare in television.

The actor also praised the positive atmosphere behind the scenes, saying the series avoided the conflicts and egos that can make long-running productions difficult to work on.

CBS announced the cancellation of Blue Bloods in November 2023. Its 14th and final season ended in December 2024.

The franchise continues with the spin-off Boston Blue, starring Donnie Wahlberg as Danny Reagan after his move to Boston. The show's second season is scheduled to premiere on 9 October.
