Tony Romo Takes Leave From CBS After Wisconsin OWI Arrest

Former NFL quarterback and CBS Sports analyst Tony Romo has been placed on leave after being arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated (OWI) in Wisconsin.

CBS Sports said Romo will remain off the air until further notice. During his absence, former NFL star J.J. Watt will join Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson on the network's lead NFL broadcast team.

Romo was arrested on July 24 after being stopped on Interstate 43 following a golf tournament. According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, he performed poorly on field sobriety tests but was cooperative during the arrest. He was booked into jail and later released.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 21. In Wisconsin, a first-offense OWI is generally treated as a civil offense rather than a criminal charge.

Romo played his entire 13-year NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys before retiring in 2017 and joining CBS Sports as its lead NFL game analyst.
