Will Ferrell recalls telling fan to ‘shut up’ after Larry David comparison

Will Ferrell has shared a rare story about confronting a fan who repeatedly compared him to comedian Larry David.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, the actor said the encounter happened at a restaurant while he was walking to the bathroom.

After telling Ferrell he was funny, the woman added, “You’re no Larry David.” Ferrell said he laughed it off and agreed that David is “one of the best.”

However, when they left the bathrooms at the same time, the woman repeated the remark, saying, “I’m serious, you’re no Larry David. You’re not even close to him.”

Ferrell said he decided to respond, telling her: “You know what? I get it. You like Larry David. Why don’t you go back to your table and shut up?”

The actor joked that she likely returned to her table describing him as “an asshole” after the exchange.

Ferrell said it is unusual for fans to criticise him. He added that when people make awkward comments, he usually responds with humour. He recalled another fan saying, “I don’t care what they say. I think you’re hilarious,” prompting Ferrell to jokingly ask, “Who’s they?” and pretend to investigate the criticism further.
