Allison Janney Says She Has No Regrets About Never Having Children

Allison Janney says she has no regrets about never marrying or having children.

The 66-year-old actress discussed her personal life on Monica Lewinsky’s “Reclaiming” podcast. Janney said she once expected to marry because that was the path she grew up believing was normal.

She considered having children during a relationship in her 30s, but realized her partner was not someone she wanted to raise children with. Later, in her 40s, she visited a fertility specialist, who told her that her chances of becoming pregnant were low.

Janney said the experience confirmed that having children was not something she truly wanted. She also recalled that the man she was dating did not accompany her to the appointment, which she saw as a sign that the relationship was not right.

“I knew I never wanted to have kids,” Janney said, adding that she is comfortable with how her life turned out. She said her dogs, along with her friends and family, are the great loves of her life.

Janney has had several long-term relationships, including with actors Dennis Gagomiros and Richard Jenik, to whom she was engaged. She later dated production manager Philip Joncas, with the relationship ending in 2017.

The actress has previously said she would rather regret not having children than have children and regret becoming a parent.
