Bret Michaels Cancels Rest of 2026 Tour to Recover From Kidney Stone Surgery

Bret Michaels will take the rest of 2026 off to recover from complications following kidney stone surgeries, his team announced Saturday.

The 63-year-old Poison singer performed in Sugar Hill, Georgia, on Aug. 21, marking his first show since undergoing surgery. However, doctors and paramedics determined after the performance that he needed more time to recover.

“Bret wanted to attempt this show, but we feel there is a much-needed period of rest and slow recovery ahead,” his doctors, Dr. Abby Borhan and Dr. Patel, said in a statement. They also cited the summer heat and humidity and the impact they can have on Michaels’ blood sugar.

Michaels was scheduled to perform at the Mountain Music Festival on Aug. 22, but that appearance was canceled. His company said he will spend the next several months healing and hopes to return to the stage once he is fully recovered.

Michaels underwent emergency treatment after suffering severe kidney pain during a concert in Washington on July 18. He later said he had an obstructing kidney stone removed and needed a stent before he could safely return to touring.

His recovery has been complicated by Type 1 diabetes, which doctors said increases his risk of infection and can slow healing. They previously advised him to maintain strict hydration, rest and blood sugar control while recovering.

Michaels’ team apologized to fans and promoters for the canceled shows and said it is now focused on his recovery and a healthy return to performing.
