Brittany Boltinhouse Speaks Out After Losing Miss North Carolina USA Title

Brittany Boltinhouse is speaking publicly for the first time after being stripped of her Miss North Carolina USA 2026 title, saying she believes her conservative Christian beliefs played a role in the decision.

Boltinhouse discussed the controversy in an interview with Carolina Journal editor-in-chief Donna King, published on YouTube Friday, Aug. 7.

The Miss USA Organization announced Aug. 5 that Boltinhouse was no longer Miss North Carolina USA 2026. Thom Brodeur, chairman and CEO of Miss USA and Miss Teen USA, said the decision was reached jointly by the organization, Boltinhouse and her state directors after conduct that allegedly violated the organization’s standards.

The organization has not publicly detailed the specific conduct that led to her removal.

During the interview, Boltinhouse said she was proud of her beliefs and suggested that her political and social views may have contributed to the loss of her title.

“I’m proud of my standards. I’m a proud conservative woman, but a Christian woman. I’m a God-fearing woman,” she said.

Boltinhouse also said she was limited in what she could disclose because of a confidentiality clause in an agreement she had signed.

“I’m not allowed to speak about things” that led to her losing the title, she said.

Despite the controversy, Boltinhouse said she was at peace with what happened.

“I’m very much at peace and I’m actually glad it happened to me and not some other young lady,” she said, adding that the experience had brought scrutiny not only on her but also on her family.

“I see the light at the end of the tunnel and I know who I am and I know what I can become,” she said.

Asked whether she believed conservative values could hurt a contestant in the pageant system, Boltinhouse said she did not believe being conservative should disqualify anyone.

“No, I think that in any system, not just in pageantry, I think you have the right to be a conservative in this country,” she said. “It’s a constitutional right.”

King also asked whether Boltinhouse believed her support for President Donald Trump was viewed as disqualifying.

Boltinhouse said she did not know.

“I don’t know. I don’t know. All I can say from the information that I have today and what I believe and I think is honestly I don’t know,” she said. “I wasn’t really given anything.”

She later offered her strongest statement about the controversy.

“All I can say is that I think and believe that my title was ripped from me because of my beliefs,” Boltinhouse said.

Boltinhouse, who is from Beulaville, was crowned Miss North Carolina USA on June 28. Her reign lasted just over a month before the organization announced her removal.

Brodeur did not identify the conduct involved when announcing the decision. However, he said the organization does not tolerate “racism, homophobia, transphobia nor language that strips any person of their dignity.”

“That is not a policy written for a press release,” Brodeur said. “It is the floor of what it means to represent this brand.”

He also said the Miss North Carolina USA title carries responsibilities beyond winning a competition.

“A title here isn’t a trinket. It is a position of trust, extended by an organization and accepted by a woman who agrees to carry a standard in public,” Brodeur said.

“When that standard is broken, the title cannot continue as though nothing happened,” he added.

According to Brodeur, the decision was not triggered by one isolated incident. He said the organization was presented with information involving conduct “over an extended period of time.”

“That is why this outcome was reached, and I stand behind it without qualification,” he said.

Brodeur also said he had seen a statement from Boltinhouse that included what he described as “ownership, accountability and apology.” While he said the statement did not reverse the organization’s decision, he characterized it as a first step toward addressing the situation.

“These are moments where reflection leads to possibility and growth,” Brodeur said. “I believe the best you have to offer this world is ahead of you.”

With Boltinhouse removed, Myla Hadley will assume the Miss North Carolina USA 2026 title. Brodeur said Hadley has the organization’s “full confidence and our support.”

The dispute leaves two competing accounts of what happened. Boltinhouse says she believes her beliefs contributed to the loss of her crown, while the Miss USA Organization maintains that the decision was based on conduct that violated its standards. Because of the confidentiality agreement Boltinhouse referenced, the details behind the decision remain largely undisclosed.
