Cole Hauser Says Extreme Texas Weather Made Dutton Ranch Season 1 a Tough Shoot

Cole Hauser says filming the first season of Dutton Ranch was physically demanding because of extreme Texas weather rather than any single emotional scene.

Speaking to PEOPLE while promoting Free Reign’s American Dirt Protein Coffee, Hauser said the cast and crew worked for nine months through intense heat, freezing temperatures and ice storms.

“We went through a lot of weather issues with the heat, then the freezing cold, and there were ice storms,” Hauser said. “It was just nuts.”

He said everyone was exhausted by the end of production and ready for a break, but described the season as rewarding after receiving a positive response from audiences and critics.

Director Christina Alexandra Voros previously revealed filming began in temperatures of about 106 degrees before production was later halted for four days because of an ice storm.

Paramount+ has renewed Dutton Ranch for a second season, with production expected to begin in early 2027. Hauser also praised new showrunner Ben Cavell and said fans can expect a new side of Rip Wheeler in the upcoming season.
