Dave Bautista in Talks to Replace Ryan Hurst as Kratos in Prime Video's God of War

Dave Bautista is in talks to play Kratos in Prime Video's God of War series after Ryan Hurst left the role because of an on-set injury, according to Deadline.

Hurst had filmed four episodes before production stopped after he suffered a bicep injury while performing a stunt. He has since undergone surgery, but the expected recovery time reportedly led Amazon to recast the role. The filmed episodes are expected to be reshot if Bautista joins the series.

The adaptation follows Kratos and his son Atreus, played by Callum Vinson, as they travel to spread the ashes of Faye, Kratos' wife and Atreus' mother. Along the way, Kratos tries to teach Atreus to become a better god, while Atreus helps his father become a better person.

The series is led by Ronald D. Moore and also stars Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, and Danny Woodburn as Brok.

Prime Video has already renewed God of War for a second season. Bautista has previously worked with Amazon on My Spy, The Wrecking Crew, and is set to appear in Road House 2 and Highlander.
