Dolly Parton Reveals Health Struggles While Announcing New Nashville Museum

Dolly Parton has revealed that she is recovering from recent health problems while continuing to pursue several major projects, including a new museum dedicated to her life and career in Nashville.

Speaking to PEOPLE on Aug. 21, the 80-year-old country music icon said she had experienced “hard times with my health” after prioritizing the care of her late husband, Carl Thomas Dean, who died in March 2025. Parton said she is still healing but remains committed to her work.

The update follows her decision to appear virtually at the Aug. 14 opening of Dollywood’s new NightFlight Expedition ride after doctors advised her not to travel because she was experiencing dizziness and dehydration.

Despite her health concerns, Parton is developing an avatar-based musical performance with her team and industry partners. She is also preparing the Life of Many Colors Museum in downtown Nashville, described by its website as the largest exhibition of her life anywhere in the world. The museum will occupy the third floor of a building that will also house her new SongTeller Hotel, scheduled to open in September 2026.

Parton is simultaneously expanding her business ventures, including a new line of dog treats with Purina and Cup of Ambition Coffee, a partnership with Community Coffee inspired by her 1980 hit “9 to 5.” The coffee is expected to become available for nationwide online shipping in September.

NightFlight Expedition, Dollywood’s 11th coaster, represents the largest single attraction investment in the theme park’s history, according to the company.
