The actor, now 63 and known for his roles on “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful,” dated singer and actress Gloria Loring for about three years while they were both appearing on “Days of Our Lives.” Loring, who played Liz Chandler, was 16 years older than Diamont and had two young sons, Brennan and Robin Thicke.
On the “Soapy” podcast, Diamont said the relationship was a positive experience and that he became close to Loring’s sons. He was only 22 or 23 at the time but said his own upbringing and love of children helped him feel comfortable taking on a supportive role.
Loring and her former husband, actor Alan Thicke, were separated at the time. Diamont said Alan’s limited presence in the boys’ lives was largely due to his work and the circumstances of his career.
Years later, Diamont learned that Robin Thicke still remembered him fondly. Thicke mentioned Diamont during an appearance on “The Howard Stern Show,” recalling that they had played basketball together when he was a child.
The two later had an unexpected reunion at Nobu in Malibu. When Diamont approached him, Thicke immediately recognized him and embraced him.
Diamont said the encounter made him realize how important his presence had been in Thicke’s childhood, something he had not fully understood at the time.
