Gal Gadot Injured While Filming ‘The Runner’: ‘I Finished the Film on Crutches’

Gal Gadot pushed herself to the limit while filming her new Prime Video thriller, The Runner — and the intense production left her with a serious injury.

The 41-year-old actress told PEOPLE that she broke both feet while filming the action-packed movie and had to finish production on crutches.

“There was only so much I could do,” Gadot said. “At one point I broke my feet and that was it. And afterwards I needed to recover and all of that.”

The Runner follows Gadot as a London defense attorney whose life changes dramatically when her young son is kidnapped while she is out for a morning run. She then receives mysterious instructions from an unknown caller and must race across the city to save him.

The film required Gadot to spend months running through streets, neighborhoods, railway tracks and other challenging locations. To prepare, she trained with an Olympic running coach, who taught her proper running technique and helped her make it feel natural.

“I’ve never done one where I’m running every day, the entire day,” Gadot explained. “So it took a lot of trial and error and adjusting.”

The demanding schedule eventually took its toll. After breaking her feet, Gadot said she needed time away from work to recover.

“The last day I was ready to finish,” she recalled. “I mean, crutches are a nice accessory, but not for me.”

Fortunately, Gadot has now recovered and says she is back to normal and ready to return to action.

Directed by Kevin Macdonald, The Runner also stars Damian Lewis, Rory Wilmot, Alfred Enoch and Phoenix Di Sebastiani.

The action thriller premieres globally on Prime Video on Wednesday, September 2.
