Garth Brooks to Honor Dolly Parton With Annual ‘Dolly Day’

Country music star Garth Brooks will honor the late Dolly Parton every year through a special event at his Nashville bar, Low Places Bar & Honky-Tonk.

Brooks and his wife, singer Trisha Yearwood, announced that September 25 will be known as “Dolly Day” at the bar. The date is a tribute to Parton’s famous song “9 to 5.”

The event will take place annually, with all of the bar’s earnings that day donated to Parton’s Imagination Library, her nonprofit that provides free books to children.

“Whatever the cash register says at the end of the day is going to Dolly’s passion,” Yearwood said, emphasizing Parton’s commitment to children’s literacy.

Parton created the Imagination Library in memory of her father, who could not read or write. The program was sending nearly 850,000 free books each month to children in several countries at the time of her death.

Brooks and Parton had a long relationship in country music and co-hosted the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2023.

Tennessee State Senator Jessie Seal has also proposed making September 25 an official “9 to 5 Day” in Tennessee, Parton’s home state.

Following Parton’s death, tributes have come from many artists, including Yearwood, Parton’s goddaughter Miley Cyrus and country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. Parton was widely remembered for her music, kindness and lifelong support of children and education.
