Speaking at the For the Love of Fantasy & Sci-Fi convention in London, Atwell said she was disappointed by the character’s brief appearance in the 2022 Marvel film. Captain Carter, an alternate version of Captain America, is killed by Scarlet Witch, who uses Carter’s shield against her.
“I was so disappointed with how they positioned her and what happened to her in that scene,” Atwell said. “It’s so small, and she gets frisbeed to death.”
The actress said she tried to suggest changes while filming, but her ideas were not accepted. She called the scene “a complete disservice” to the character.
Atwell has previously criticized the moment, noting that Carter says, “I could do this all day,” shortly before being killed.
She said she hopes Marvel gives Captain Carter a larger role in the future. Atwell is expected to return as the character in Avengers: Doomsday.
Atwell also revealed that she uses one of Carter’s lines, “I know my value,” during contract negotiations with Marvel, saying she believes she should embody the character’s confidence in her own career.
