Jack Lowden Emerges as Leading Contender for James Bond Role

Jack Lowden has emerged as a leading contender to become the next James Bond after British TV presenter Richard Osman said he had heard that the Scottish actor is “definitely being strongly considered” for the role.

Osman made the claim on his podcast, The Rest Is Entertainment, while stressing that the casting decision has not been confirmed. The report quickly affected British betting markets, with Lowden moving into third place at around 5/1.

Lowden is best known for playing MI5 agent River Cartwright in Apple TV+’s Slow Horses, a role he has held since 2020. He has also appeared in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, BBC drama War & Peace and crime series The Gold.

His experience playing a British intelligence officer has made him a natural choice for speculation about Bond, although Cartwright is a less polished and more accident-prone spy than 007. Lowden has previously rejected comparisons between the two characters.

Other actors still linked to the role include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Harris Dickinson, Jacob Elordi, Henry Cavill, James Norton, Theo James and Callum Turner.

Amazon MGM has said it wants the next Bond to be something “really different,” which could work against Lowden’s chances. However, no casting has been officially announced, and the new Bond is expected to be revealed later this year.
