John Cusack Backs Ruffalo in Dispute Over Israel, Oracle and Paramount

John Cusack has expressed support for actor Mark Ruffalo after Ruffalo was accused of using antisemitic tropes in criticism of Oracle and Paramount Skydance.

Ruffalo recently criticized Oracle, which is owned by billionaire Larry Ellison, over its ties to the Israeli military. He also questioned Paramount Skydance’s proposed $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros., citing concerns about corporate power, national security and editorial independence.

Paramount Skydance responded by accusing Ruffalo of invoking antisemitic tropes, saying that references to “genocide” and “apartheid” in connection with a corporate deal were inappropriate.

Ruffalo rejected the accusation, saying that criticism of Israeli government actions, military technology contracts or business executives should not be equated with hostility toward Jewish people. He said he has “deep love and respect” for Jewish people and described his comments as part of his political convictions.

Cusack responded to Ruffalo’s statement with a brief message of support: “Solidarity — well said.”

Ruffalo has continued to oppose the Paramount Skydance-Warner Bros. deal, arguing that it could give one family significant control over major media properties and have consequences for workers and editorial independence. He called for greater public scrutiny and regulatory review before the merger proceeds.
