Katey Sagal Reflects on Motherhood, Family and Why She Still Loves to Work

Katey Sagal is opening up about becoming a mother again in her fifties and why she has no plans to slow down. Speaking on Ted Danson’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast, the 72-year-old actress revealed that she welcomed her youngest daughter, Esmé, now 19, via surrogate after husband Kurt Sutter changed his mind about having children several years into their relationship.

Sagal, who also shares daughter Sarah Grace White, 31, and actor Jackson White, 30, with late ex-husband Jack Cameron White, said she has learned to respect her children’s boundaries by asking if they want her advice before offering feedback on their creative work.

The Married...With Children and Sons of Anarchy star also shared that while her children encourage her to "chill," she enjoys working and considers acting her way of relaxing. She added that her kids are among her biggest supporters and are the first people she calls whenever she lands a new role.
