Meghan Markle Is Returning to Acting With Her Biggest Role Since Suits

Meghan Markle is reportedly preparing for a major return to acting, in what could become her biggest role since she left the hit legal drama Suits.

PEOPLE reports that the Duchess of Sussex has been offered a significant new project, although details about the production and her role remain private. A spokesperson for Meghan and Prince Harry declined to comment but did not deny the report.

The news was first reported by news.com.au royal correspondent Bronte Coy. Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today program on Friday, Aug. 21, Coy said Meghan’s new project was “significant” and that she was “very excited about it.”

The reported acting opportunity comes as Meghan and Harry prepare to return to Britain with their two children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. PEOPLE recently reported that the family plans to spend an extended period in the U.K., where the children have been enrolled in school.

The move is not expected to be permanent. The couple will keep their home in Montecito, California, while Meghan’s businesses and charitable work remain largely based in the United States. Harry will also continue his charitable commitments in both Britain and the U.S., including his work connected to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.

The timing of Meghan’s reported new project, Harry’s commitments and the children’s schooling appears to have played a role in the family’s plans for a new chapter in Britain.

Meghan became widely known for playing Rachel Zane on Suits. She met Harry in 2016 while starring on the series and filmed her final episodes in 2017 before their wedding in 2018. At the time, she said she was leaving acting to begin a “new chapter” in her life.

In recent years, however, Meghan has gradually returned to the screen. She made a cameo as herself in Close Personal Friends, alongside Lily Collins and Jack Quaid. She was spotted filming in Pasadena, Calif., in November 2025, with a source telling PEOPLE that she appeared “very relaxed and happy.”

“She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth,” the source said.

The family’s return to Britain will also mark their first home base there since they left Frogmore Cottage. The Windsor property was given to them by the late Queen Elizabeth, but they were asked to leave in 2023 following the publication of Harry’s memoir, Spare.

King Charles was reportedly informed about the Sussexes’ plans on Aug. 16 and is understood to welcome the chance to spend more private time with his son and grandchildren.

The King saw Archie and Lilibet for the first time in more than four years during the family’s U.K. visit in July. During that trip, the Sussexes had tea with Charles at his private country residence, Highgrove House.

Harry and Meghan also visited Althorp House, the childhood home and final resting place of Princess Diana. Harry’s uncle, Charles Spencer, lives there with his wife, Cat Jarman. The family spent time with members of the Spencer family and are believed to have visited Diana’s gravesite.

For Meghan, the reported new acting project could mark another major step in a gradual return to entertainment. For the Sussex family, meanwhile, the upcoming period in Britain appears set to combine work, family and a renewed connection to Harry’s homeland.
