Rosario Dawson Reveals She Shot a Scene for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ — But It Was Cut

Rosario Dawson has revealed that she filmed a scene for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but fans will not see her in the finished movie.

Dawson, who is best known to Marvel fans as Claire Temple from the Netflix-era shows, shared the news during a recent Daredevil panel at GalaxyCon in North Carolina.

A fan asked Dawson which Marvel superhero she would most like Claire Temple to work with.

“I could have said Spider-Man,” Dawson replied. “I even shot a scene in the new Spider-Man movie. But I got cut out.”

The audience reacted with disappointment, but Dawson joked about the situation, especially her mother’s reaction.

“I told my mom, and she was like, ‘That sucks. Now I can’t post the behind-the-scenes pictures,’” Dawson said.

Dawson explained that she had already prepared a social media post featuring photos from the set, including pictures of her grandson wearing Spider-Man merchandise. She said she was disappointed when she received an email telling her that the scene had been removed.

For Dawson, the connection to Spider-Man is also personal. She said her uncle Gus, a comic-book artist, was a major reason for her love of comics and superheroes. Spider-Man was reportedly the first character he learned to draw.

Dawson also pointed out a connection between Spider-Man and her own childhood. She noted that a recent comic features a young Spider-Man attending PS19 on the Lower East Side of New York, the same elementary school Dawson attended.

“So when I tell you my post was all ready, with my BTS photos, with my grandson wearing all his Spider-Man stuff, and then I got the email that was like, ‘Yeah, nah,’” she said.

Dawson joked that she was now “a reject of Spider-Man and a reject of The Devil’s Rejects,” referring to her work in the 2005 film The Devil’s Rejects.

Despite being cut from Brand New Day, Dawson has not ruled out returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She played Claire Temple in Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders, becoming one of the key links between Marvel’s Netflix series.

“My character is somewhere in that same universe, and I really love that,” Dawson said. “I hope I get to be Claire again.”

Her comments are likely to fuel speculation among Marvel fans about whether Claire Temple could eventually return, particularly as the MCU continues bringing characters from Marvel’s earlier television shows back into the wider universe.
