Ruby Rose Shares Alleged Texts From Hayden Panettiere Amid Family Controversy

Ruby Rose has shared what she says are private text messages from Hayden Panettiere, reigniting questions about the late actress’ difficult relationship with her mother, Lesley Vogel.

Rose, 40, posted screenshots on Threads Wednesday that she said showed conversations with Panettiere. In the messages, the person identified as “Hayden” described being deeply hurt by her mother’s behavior.

“I was sobbing over her cruelty yesterday thinking, my god I’m 36 and she can still cause this kind of pain,” the message read. “I’m her only child left and this is how she wants to handle the situation?!”

Rose also shared messages in which she and Panettiere appeared to discuss their relationships with their mothers. Rose said their parents had not acted or behaved like mothers should.

The posts came after Vogel spoke publicly about her daughter’s death and criticized Panettiere’s former partner, Brian Hickerson. In an interview with NBC News, Vogel said Hickerson was with Panettiere when she died and claimed the family had been trying to distance him from her for some time.

“I think it becomes very difficult to be true to yourself and I think Hayden sadly lost her way and I wish it were different,” Vogel said.

Her comments drew criticism from CBS Mornings anchor Gayle King, who called the remarks “sad” during Wednesday’s broadcast.

“You know, guys, you read this and all I can think is, ‘Thanks, Mom, for nothing,’” King said.

Panettiere died Sunday at age 36. According to Greenville, South Carolina, coroner Mike Ellis, there were no signs of trauma on her body. The cause and manner of death remain under investigation, with additional studies still pending.

Panettiere had spoken publicly about her struggles with alcohol and opioid addiction and had also discussed her complicated relationship with her mother.

During an emotional interview on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast in May, Panettiere said she ended her professional relationship with Vogel when she was 19 because she wanted her mother to simply be her mother.

“I just wanted her to be my mom,” Panettiere said, recalling a conversation with Vogel while filming Heroes. She alleged that when she asked her mother to stop working with her, Vogel responded, “You owe me.”

Panettiere’s death was confirmed by a representative over the weekend. Her father, Alan “Skip” Panettiere, remembered her as “an incredible light and a force of nature” who brought “immeasurable love and joy” to those around her.

Rose’s screenshots have added another layer to the public discussion surrounding Panettiere’s final years and her family relationships. However, the authenticity and full context of the private messages have not been independently established, and the investigation into Panettiere’s death remains ongoing.
