Sandra Bullock Shares a Glimpse of Family Life Ahead of Practical Magic 2

Sandra Bullock is making the most of her time with family and friends as she prepares to return to the big screen.

On Tuesday, Aug. 18, the Practical Magic 2 star, 62, shared a series of photos on Instagram showing moments from her recent life. The pictures included outdoor adventures, fishing trips, walks in nature and rafting.

Some of the photos appeared to include Bullock’s two children, son Louis, 16, and daughter Laila, 12. Bullock also tagged her sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, in one photo. Another picture showed her family visiting the graves of her parents.

“Friends, family, fun, fishies, furries, aaaand work,” Bullock wrote in the caption.

The actress has been open about making her children a priority, even while managing a demanding career. During the CNBC Changemakers Summit in New York City in April, Bullock explained that she agreed to make Practical Magic 2 partly because the production schedule allowed her to work while her children were out of school.

“I made this film at this time because I knew my kids were out of school,” she said. “I’m not going to sacrifice my children’s — my time — with my kids.”

Bullock said she does not feel she can do her best work when her children need her and she cannot be there for them.

“I’m raising my children, not anybody else,” she said, while acknowledging that not every working parent has the same flexibility.

Bullock has also spoken about becoming a mother later in life. In a 2022 appearance on Red Table Talk, she said she was grateful that her journey to motherhood happened when it did.

“I’m so glad the universe had me wait,” she said. “Had me wait even though I was anxious and I was eager.”

Her children have also influenced her decision to step away from acting for periods of time. In 2022, Bullock told PEOPLE that she was not retiring but wanted to spend more time with her family.

“I’m not retiring, just going to not spend time in front of the camera for a while,” she said. “I have beautiful babies. I’d rather look at them.”

Now, with Practical Magic 2, Bullock is returning to the screen after a four-year break. But her recent family photos make clear that, for the actress, work remains only one part of a much bigger life centered on her children, loved ones and time spent together.
