The “Rocketman” star discussed the issue during the Aug. 10 episode of Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast. Egerton said he was raised by a single mother and became the “man of the house,” feeling responsible for taking care of those around him.
When he was 12, Egerton moved to a new school, where two classmates labeled him as a “feminine masculine artsy boy.” He said he responded by developing a “cocky and confident” persona to hide his insecurities.
Egerton said those feelings have stayed with him. He explained that when conversations turn to traditional ideas of masculinity, he sometimes worries that people will see through him. He also said the insecurity can surface in his romantic relationships.
His comments come amid recent speculation about his love life. Egerton was linked to model Brooks Nader after the two were seen together several times in Los Angeles and later photographed holding hands and kissing in Australia.
Nader later dismissed the romance rumors, telling TMZ in June that “nothing” happened between them and that she was single.
Egerton has previously been linked to assistant director Emily Thomas and actress Chloe Bennet. In a 2022 interview, he said he is generally attracted to someone who is “quite attractive and funny,” while stressing that physical appearance is not a requirement for dating him.
