Trevor Phillips Says Bari Weiss Could 'Change the World or Crash and Burn' at CBS

Former Sky News presenter Trevor Phillips says CBS News chief Bari Weiss could either transform the network or fail dramatically as she leads a major overhaul of its news division.

Phillips, who has joined CBS as a senior global affairs correspondent, told The Telegraph that Weiss is leading an ambitious effort to reshape the broadcaster. "She will either change the world or crash and burn," he said, adding that she is trying to bring a wider range of viewpoints to the network.

Weiss has faced criticism since taking over CBS News, with critics questioning her lack of broadcast management experience and pointing to leadership changes at programs including 60 Minutes. Supporters say she is pushing for more diverse perspectives in news coverage.

Phillips said he wants to focus on reporting rather than personality-driven journalism. He also said he plans to interview political figures who challenge traditional left-right politics, including Nigel Farage, Giorgia Meloni and Marine Le Pen.

CBS has undergone significant changes in recent months, including several high-profile departures from 60 Minutes and controversy surrounding the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. CBS has said its programming decisions were based on business considerations.
