Kacey Musgraves Fires Back at Fan Criticizing Cheeky Tour Prop

Kacey Musgraves has a cheeky response for a fan who criticized one of the more provocative elements of her new tour.

The country star, 38, launched her Middle of Nowhere Tour on Aug. 21 in Chicago with two enormous, anatomically correct disco balls as part of her stage setup. Musgraves rides on the sparkling props during her performance of “Rhinestoned.”

“This is what it looks like when no one tells me no,” she joked during a show.

Musgraves has also poked fun at the props while performing for her grandmother, known as Nana. “It takes a lot of balls to get up here and do what I do every night,” she told the audience, adding that Nana had always advised her to do things “big” and “sparkly.”

The singer has previously discussed Nana’s reaction to the sexual themes on her latest album, Deeper Well, including the song “Dry Spell.” Musgraves said Nana was not a fan of one of the song’s suggestive lyrics.

The singer also recalled becoming emotional after learning that Nana had been hospitalized while Musgraves was filming the “Dry Spell” music video. She joked that if her grandmother recovered, she might not approve of the finished video.

Musgraves’ humor has extended to other tour mishaps. During her Boston show, part of the stage lighting caught fire. She joked about the incident before launching into a performance of “Wonderwall.”

The disco balls drew a more direct reaction from one fan on Instagram. After Musgraves posted photos from the tour on Aug. 29, a commenter wrote, “I can’t get behind the large testicles I’m sorry.”

Musgraves replied with a one-line comeback: “Well, maybe you can get in front of them.”

The Middle of Nowhere Tour is scheduled to continue through Feb. 26, 2027, when Musgraves will conclude the tour in London.
