Rosanne Cash Postpones Three Tour Shows After Medical Emergency

Rosanne Cash has postponed three upcoming tour performances after an unexpected medical emergency, her management team announced.

The 71-year-old singer-songwriter is recovering under the care of her doctors, who have advised her to temporarily avoid traveling and performing.

“Rosanne Cash must postpone her performances due to an unexpected medical emergency,” her management said in a statement posted to her Instagram account. “She is recovering under her doctors’ supervision, who have recommended a temporary restriction on travel and performing.”

The affected shows were scheduled for Sept. 8 in Sheridan, Wyoming; Sept. 9 in Billings, Montana; and Sept. 10 in Bozeman, Montana.

Cash’s team said she deeply regrets having to postpone the performances and hopes to reschedule them.

The postponements come as Cash continues a busy touring schedule. She is currently scheduled to perform in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on Sept. 19. Her calendar also includes European shows in late October, a performance at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on Nov. 9, and several Southern California dates in January.

Cash, the eldest daughter of country music icon Johnny Cash, has built a successful career of her own. Since releasing her debut album in 1978, she has recorded more than a dozen studio albums, exploring country, pop and Americana music.

She is a four-time Grammy Award winner and was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2015. Some of her best-known songs include “Seven Year Ache” and “I Don’t Know Why You Don’t Want Me.”

Her father also played an important role in shaping her musical identity.

In a 2009 interview with NPR’s Fresh Air, Cash recalled traveling with Johnny Cash after she graduated from high school at age 18. During a conversation about music, he realized she was unfamiliar with many of the songs he believed were part of her musical heritage.

Johnny Cash then spent an afternoon making a list of songs for his daughter.

Although he described it as a list of country songs, Rosanne Cash said it was actually a broad collection of American music, including folk, blues, gospel, Appalachian music, protest songs and early country.

She eventually recorded many of those songs on her 2009 album The List.

Looking back, Cash said she came to understand that the list meant much more than a collection of songs.

“He was really giving me himself, a part of his heart and soul,” she said.

Johnny Cash died in Nashville on Sept. 12, 2003, at the age of 71. His musical legacy continues through his recordings and through the work of his daughter, who has established herself as an influential artist in her own right.
