The 34-year-old actress and singer recently shared a touching photo of herself holding a newborn baby on her Instagram Stories. Under the picture, Gomez wrote, “one day.. 🥹💔, hinting at her hope of becoming a mother in the future.
Gomez, who is married to record producer Benny Blanco, 38, has spoken openly about wanting children. In October, she celebrated her character Alex Russo becoming a mom on the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place sequel series.
“Alex Russo is a mommy 🥹,” Gomez wrote at the time. “Hopefully one day that’ll be me.”
Gomez has always loved children
During a March appearance on the Jay Shetty Podcast, Gomez and Blanco talked about their hopes of having a family together.
“I don’t know what will happen, obviously, but I love children,” Gomez said. “I love making [children] laugh; they’re just so sweet. So absolutely, when that day comes, I’m so excited for it.”
Blanco also described how naturally Gomez connects with children.
“When you see children, you immediately go to the kids and have these conversations for hours with the kids,” he said, adding that Gomez has spent years connecting with young audiences through shows such as Barney and Wizards of Waverly Place.
The couple married on Sept. 27 in Montecito, California.
Gomez has discussed her path to motherhood
Gomez previously revealed that she cannot safely carry a pregnancy because of medical complications.
In a 2024 interview with Vanity Fair, she said that certain health conditions could put both her life and a baby's life at risk.
“I unfortunately can’t carry my own children,” Gomez said. “That was something I had to grieve for a while.”
Gomez has been open about her health journey over the years. She was diagnosed with lupus in 2015 and has also spoken publicly about her bipolar disorder.
Despite the challenges, Gomez said she remains hopeful about becoming a mother through other options, including surrogacy or adoption.
“I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me,” she told Vanity Fair.
“I’m one of those people,” she added. “I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”
Her latest Instagram post suggests that, despite the uncertainty, motherhood remains something Gomez is looking forward to.
