Lea Michele to Return as Rachel Berry in ‘Glee’ Reboot

Lea Michele is set to reprise her iconic role as Rachel Berry in the upcoming Glee reboot, bringing the ambitious, Broadway-dreaming performer back to the musical series that launched her to stardom.

According to Variety, Michele will return for the reboot being developed for Disney+ and Hulu by creator Ryan Murphy and his collaborators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. While the project remains in its early stages, sources have expressed excitement about reuniting the original cast.

Michele’s former co-stars Heather Morris, who played Brittany Pierce, and Chord Overstreet, who portrayed Sam Evans, have also shared social media posts suggesting they may be returning.

Michele played Rachel Berry throughout the show’s six-season run on Fox from 2009 to 2015. Known for her extraordinary singing talent, fierce ambition and determination to succeed on Broadway, Rachel became one of the series’ defining characters.

Before Glee, Michele had established herself on Broadway, appearing in productions including Les Misérables, Ragtime and Spring Awakening. She later enjoyed a major career resurgence in 2022 when she took over the lead role of Fanny Brice in Broadway’s Funny Girl revival, a role closely associated with Rachel’s own theatrical ambitions.

Murphy recently confirmed that he had written a reboot script with Falchuk and Brennan, revealing that he had contacted around 10 original cast members. He said they were enthusiastic about the idea, although they had plenty of questions.

Michele has also expressed her willingness to return, telling E! News that Glee would always hold a special place in her heart and that she would follow Murphy wherever he went.

The original series ended in 2015 with Rachel winning a Tony Award, marrying Jesse St. James, played by her real-life best friend Jonathan Groff, and achieving the Broadway success she had pursued throughout the show.

With Michele reportedly back on board, the Glee reboot could bring a beloved character back into the spotlight. Further details about the project, including its release date and additional cast members, have yet to be announced.
