Lionel Richie Postpones Two Tour Dates After Onstage Health Scare and Hospital Visit

Lionel Richie is taking time to recover after experiencing a medical issue during the opening night of his 2026 "Sing a Song All Night Long" tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. Following a brief hospitalization as a precaution, the legendary singer has postponed his next two concerts on the advice of his doctors.

The 77-year-old music icon reassured fans through an official statement that he plans to return to the stage once he has fully recovered.

Richie Falls Ill During Minnesota Concert

The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 24, at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota, where Richie was performing alongside Earth, Wind & Fire.

Approximately 55 minutes into his set, while performing his 1986 hit "Dancing on the Ceiling," Richie appeared uncomfortable and decided to sit down on a step at the front of the stage.

Despite feeling unwell, he maintained his trademark sense of humor.

"What I have learned from my years of being in the business: when you're feeling dizzy, sit your ass down. And when you are feeling strange about yourself, sit your ass down!"

Richie then moved to the piano and performed "Three Times a Lady" before announcing an unscheduled intermission.

After roughly 40 minutes, saxophonist Dino Soldo returned to the stage to address the audience.

"Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well. He won't be able to continue. Additional information will be available."

The concert ended early, disappointing fans but prompting concern for the singer's health.

Transported to Hospital as a Precaution

According to local authorities, an adult male was transported from the arena to a nearby hospital following the performance. While officials did not publicly identify the patient, multiple reports confirmed it was Richie.

Earth, Wind & Fire drummer John Paris later told attendees that Richie appeared to be suffering from dehydration.

On Friday, Live Nation announced that Richie would postpone his next two scheduled performances to allow time for rest.

The postponed concerts are:

In a statement, Live Nation said:

"Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his next two shows on Friday, June 26 in Chicago, IL and Saturday, June 27 in Columbus, OH. He and Earth, Wind & Fire will return to the stage on Tuesday, June 30 in Pittsburgh, PA."

The statement continued:

"Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes fans who have tickets for these two shows. Rescheduled dates will be announced soon."

Fans who purchased tickets for the Chicago and Columbus shows are advised to keep them, as replacement dates will be announced at a later time.

Tour Expected to Resume June 30

As of now, Richie is expected to resume the "Sing a Song All Night Long" tour on Tuesday, June 30, at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The remainder of the North American tour currently includes stops in:
