Taylor Sheridan Criticizes Marvel's Storytelling, Says Films Rely Too Much on Exposition

Taylor Sheridan criticized Marvel's approach to storytelling during an appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast, saying many of the studio's films rely too heavily on exposition instead of visual storytelling.

The Yellowstone co-creator said movies should let the camera drive the story, while dialogue should reveal characters' emotions and motivations. He argued that Marvel films often use long "information dumps" to explain the plot rather than advancing it through action.

Sheridan also said the film industry has changed from earlier decades, when writers and directors had more creative freedom and faced fewer studio revisions. He blamed many modern studio executives for focusing on marketing rather than storytelling, arguing that this leads to excessive oversight and weaker scripts.

Sheridan's comments came as discussion turned to his own screenwriting process. He did not single out a specific Marvel film, but his remarks suggest he is unlikely to be interested in upcoming releases such as Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
