Chris Evans says Marvel return felt like starting over on Avengers: Doomsday

Chris Evans says returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Avengers: Doomsday felt like going back to the early days of The Avengers.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly after Marvel Studios' Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, Evans said filming the new movie brought back the excitement he felt while making the first Avengers film in 2011.

He recalled being in awe of his fellow cast members, saying he sometimes forgot he was in a scene because he was watching Robert Downey Jr. perform as Tony Stark. Evans said he experienced a similar feeling on Avengers: Doomsday, enjoying the chance to watch his co-stars at work.

Evans last appeared in the MCU in Avengers: Endgame (2019). He returns in Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo.

The film brings together heroes from three universes, including the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. Robert Downey Jr. returns to the franchise in a new role as Victor Von Doom, also known as Doctor Doom. He described the character as the opposite of Tony Stark, saying Doom's past drives him towards villainy rather than heroism.

Marvel also revealed footage showing Sue Storm explaining that Doctor Doom comes from the Fantastic Four's universe and was once a kind man before personal tragedy changed him.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 18 December.
