Christine Marinoni Joins NYC Education Department Under Mamdani Administration

Christine Marinoni, the wife of actor and former New York gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon, has joined New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration, according to the New York Post.

Marinoni has been hired as chief of mass engagement in the Department of Education’s Office of Family and Community Empowerment. The Post reported that the position pays $203,500 a year.

The newspaper suggested the appointment was a reward for Nixon’s support of Mamdani during his mayoral campaign. Nixon rejected that claim, saying her wife was not hired for political reasons.

A Department of Education spokesperson said Marinoni’s background made her well qualified for the role, describing her as “a longtime public servant, community organizer and education advocate.”

Marinoni previously served in former Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration and co-founded the Alliance for Quality Education in New York.

Nixon, who married Marinoni in 2012, has been a vocal supporter of Mamdani. After his 2025 mayoral victory, she praised him on Instagram, calling him “a miracle of nature.”

The appointment has drawn criticism from some City Hall insiders. An anonymous source quoted by the Post argued that the hiring reflected political favoritism, a claim the administration has not acknowledged.
