Colman Domingo Mocks Elon Musk Over AI 'Odyssey' Plans During Jimmy Kimmel Live

Guest host Colman Domingo used part of his latest Jimmy Kimmel Live monologue to joke about Elon Musk's plan to create an AI-generated version of The Odyssey.

Musk recently said he wants to produce a "full-length" and "historically accurate" adaptation of Homer's epic using Grok Imagine, an AI image and video tool. He said the project would stay "true to the art of Homer."

Domingo suggested Musk's idea was driven by criticism of Christopher Nolan's recent film adaptation, particularly its diverse casting. He joked that The Odyssey could not be made "historically accurate" because it is a fictional story, comparing it to The Hunger Games. He also made several other jokes aimed at Musk, including references to Mars and Musk's criticism of the film.

Musk has repeatedly criticized Nolan's adaptation, calling the casting of Lupita Nyong'o as Helen of Troy "woke" and accusing the filmmaker of abandoning historical accuracy. He has also criticized the casting of actor Elliot Page.

Despite the criticism, The Odyssey has performed strongly at the box office. The film earned about $264 million worldwide during its opening weekend, surpassing the opening of Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises.

Nyong'o has dismissed the backlash, saying she supports Nolan's creative vision and is not focused on responding to criticism. She told Elle that the cast reflects the world and that criticism would continue whether she addressed it or not.
